Group Relamping

Group Relamping, an often overlooked opportunity, allows facilities to take advantage of the many benefits that a scheduled ‘all-at-once’ cleaning and relamping of their lighting fixtures offers.

Some feel that as long as a fixture is still illuminated, there’s no need to relamp it. However, in reality aging lamps and dirty fixtures do have an impact on your operation. Following are just a few examples of how.

Maintenance Reductions – Almost every lamp in use has a rated life expectancy. During the first 75%-80% of rated life, lamp failure is low. Between that point and the rated life expectancy, typically one-half or more of the lamps will burn out. Spot replacement of lamps as they burn out requires constant attention, and the results are high ongoing maintenance costs and day to day disruptions. A typical setup and break down can take in house personnel approximately 20-30 minutes per replacement. (5 times longer than a replacement during group relamping)

Reduced Interruptions – With group relamping, the work is commonly performed during off peak hours, thereby reducing the number of day to day business interruptions.

Light Levels – As lamps age and fixtures become dirty, light levels drop. This combination can lower the light output by 15-40%, while you’re still paying 100% of the energy cost to operate.

Energy Savings – In some cases simply installing a newer energy saving lamp in your existing fixture can substantially reduce your energy consumption.

Uniformity – All fixtures being illuminated with consistent light output and lamp color creates a truly professional image.

Waste Disposal – The majority of lamps in use today contain mercury. Disposal of these lamps needs to be in accordance with State and Federal guidelines for hazardous waste. In group relamping the removed lamps can be packaged and shipped for proper disposal as required by these guidelines.

‘Environmentally Friendly’ Lamps –In many cases, during a relamp the old lamps can be replaced with low mercury content lamps. These new lamps comply with today’s rigorous standards for normal landfill disposal criteria.
